Welding tents? It is not something you would expect to see in the same sentence, welding and tents but you would be surprised to find that welding tents are an important and integral part of the welding process when welding takes to the rugged outdoors.

There are many different types of welding and many different places and reasons welding takes place. When welding takes to the outdoor environment and in places where other people may roam there is a need to protect the work, welder and those in the vicinity and this is where a tent comes into its own.

What is it?

The name pretty much sums up what a tent used for welding is…it is a tent that is used to cover a working area where welding is to take place. This is the simple way of describing what a welding tent is but let us get into the gritty of what it truly is.

A tent for welding is a large heavy duty, fire proof and strong material tent supported by a lightweight metal frame that has a basic shell. The shell has two open ends that can enjoy many different end facets from zip doors to fully engulfed and enclosed sides for arctic conditions.

Tents are used in many environments but are primarily used in the railway industry and pipeline industry for welders out in the field welding railway tracks; this is because the tent protects the welder and work area from the environment. Other areas where tents are used are brickwork and quarry sites and other heavy duty environments as the work areas tend to involve large metal machinery in enclosed areas where others may be present.

Why a tent is important to a welder…

Imagine being a heavy duty welder with a MIG welder or stick welder out in the field, working on pipes, railways lines or even machinery, your outside in the elements with the weather beating down rain and howling winds. If you think of this what would be the most important piece of kit, your welder? Probably not, it will most likely be a well built, study welding tent that will protect you and your working area so you can get on with your working day without worrying about mother Earth and what she may throw at you.
