Gas Welding Torch for joining to metals
Welding Torch Guide
A gas welding torch as with all welding guns and torches simply allows the process of joining to metals to happen, right? But some torches make the welding process semi-automatic while others simply let the welder carry out the process manually, but one of the most interesting torches is the well designed gas welding gun.
gas welding is one of the older types of welding, along with the gas welding gun used. Even though the gas welding torch is one of the older welding designs it is also one of the most interesting and advanced.
What is gas welding?
The gas welding can be used in a semi-automatic process, but the majority of gas weldings are manual. The welder will light the welder and use the two needle valves to alter the flame to one they feel suitable for the welding they are about to undertake. After this they will start welding by using a welding filler rod being manually fed into the welding arc.
gas welding torch internal design
Although simple in the design, the gas torch is advanced in what the design accomplishes. The torch looks basic aesthetically but it is what is housed inside that makes this torch very special.
The welder torch has two connections at the bottom; these are for oxygen and the fuel gas. At the top of the connections there are two needle valves, these valves let the person welding control the flow of the two gases through the welder torch.
After the two valves there are two pipes that run parallel through the welder torch into a mixing head where the gases mix together before travelling through the copper tip and is used for the welding process.
gas torch external design
Externally the gas welding torch is not much to look at as all the important design mechanisms are inside.
Externally you can see the oxygen and fuel hoses join the connection at the bottom and the needle valves controlling the gas flow above that. After this you will simply see a long metal shaft that serves as the torch handle for the person welding to hold.
Above the handle there is a thinner shaft which is where the gas is mixed, this then leads on to the copper tip which is a thin pipe curved towards a 90 degree angle at the top where the welding flame is found.
While there are many new and interesting welding techniques available, using a gas welding torch is the preferred welding method for many welders today. It seems that no matter how great an advance in welding technology, people always turn to the gas welding approach.
